Privacy Policy
Summary
TabHarbor is local-first. The free extension saves your tabs, tab groups, and snapshots on your own computer using Chrome's local extension storage, with no account, no login, and no server operated by us. We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share your data. Your saved tabs never leave your machine unless you export or back them up to a location you choose. Optional paid Premium / Team plans add an account and end-to-end-encrypted cloud sync — see Premium accounts, cloud sync & payments below.
What data TabHarbor handles
To do its job — "never lose your tabs" — TabHarbor reads and stores:
- Tabs you save: URL, title, favicon, and pinned state of the tab(s) you choose to save.
- Tab groups you save: the group's title and colour, plus the tabs inside it.
- Your bookmarks: read to produce byte-accurate bookmark exports and, when you ask, to restore bookmarks back into Chrome.
- Settings: your TabHarbor preferences (theme, save/restore behaviour, snapshot cadence, backup destination).
- Snapshots: point-in-time copies of the above, kept as a local undo history.
All of this is stored in chrome.storage.local on your device.
Where your data goes
- By default: nowhere. Everything stays in Chrome's local storage on your computer.
- On-disk backups (optional, you enable them): Downloads mode
writes to
Downloads/TabHarbor/; Folder mode writes to a folder you pick once. These files live on your own disk. If you point folder backup at a cloud-synced folder (iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Google Drive desktop), the files sync through your own cloud account as ordinary files — your storage, your account; we never receive them. - Manual exports (you trigger them): JSON and HTML files you download explicitly. These go wherever you save them.
What we do NOT do
- We do not use analytics, telemetry, tracking, ads, or third-party SDKs in the extension.
- We do not sell or share your data with anyone.
- We do not receive your tabs in readable form: the free tier never sends them to us, and Premium cloud sync stores only ciphertext we cannot read.
Permissions and why they are needed
| Permission | Why TabHarbor needs it |
|---|---|
tabs | Read the URL, title, and favicon of the tab(s) you save. |
tabGroups | Capture and restore a tab group's title and colour. |
bookmarks | Produce bookmark-format exports and restore bookmarks to Chrome on request. |
storage | Store your saved tabs, settings, and snapshots locally. |
downloads | Write optional automatic backup files to your Downloads folder. |
contextMenus | Provide the right-click toolbar menu. |
favicon | Display the icons of your saved tabs. |
alarms | Run scheduled local snapshots on the cadence you choose. |
Permissions are used only for the features above. TabHarbor does not read page content, keystrokes, or form data.
Data retention and deletion
Your data lives on your device for as long as you keep it. You can delete it at any time: archive and delete items inside the extension, clear the extension's storage, or uninstall the extension. Backup files you created live where you put them and are removed by you.
Children
TabHarbor is a productivity tool and is not directed at children under 13.
Premium accounts, cloud sync & payments
These apply only if you choose a paid plan; the free extension is unaffected.
- Account: Premium and Team require an account (email, or Sign in with Google/Microsoft). We store your email and subscription status to provide the service.
- Encrypted cloud sync: your tabs are end-to-end encrypted on your device before upload. We store only ciphertext and cannot read it.
- Payments: handled by Paddle.com, our reseller and Merchant of Record. Paddle processes your payment details and billing data under its own Privacy Policy; we receive only the information needed to manage your subscription (e.g. plan, status, country for tax). We never receive or store your full card number.
- Early-access waitlist: if you submit your email to the Premium early-access form, we store that email solely to send you a single launch notification. No other use, no sharing; you can ask us to delete it anytime at the contact below.
